Diri visits Obasanjo, describes him as father of Africa

The Bayelsa state governor, Duoye Diri, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the father of Nigeria and Africa.

The governor stated this when he visited the former president on the occasion of his 83rd birthday.

The governor, who arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) penthouse, Abeokuta, the Ogun state at about 5.45pm, said Obasanjo understands the dynamics of politics and leadership and has repeatedly, demonstrated same on many occasions.

Diri who met Obasanjo behind closed doors for about 20minutes, said the purpose of the visit was to come and felicitate with Obasanjo on his 83rd birthday, which holds Thursday.

“I have come to greet my father, our father who is actually the father of Nigeria and Africa. I have come to felicitate with him on his forthcoming birthday, which comes up in few days time.

“And, I met him in good health and in his good elements. That is principally why I have come here today. And he also appreciated my coming. It is my prayer that he will enjoy more years to come and see in his life time, the Nigeria of his dream.”

The governor said he had put behind him the political challenges he faced before getting into power, declaring, “as earlier said in other occasions, there is no victor, no vanquished in my emergence as the governor of Bayelsa state. 

“The people should expect good governance and a Governor that understands the challenges of the state and ready to proffer solution. I am a homegrown governor, the humble and miracle Governor. I extend my hand of fellowship to my brothers and sisters of Bayelsa state in this journey,” Diri said.

He assured the people of Bayelsa state of good governance from a governor who understands the challenges of the state.
