Customs impounds contrabands, as comptroller departs to Seme

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit Zone A has impounded various contrabands with a Duty Paid Value of N2.055,321,389,.84 in two week.
The disclosure was made yesterday at Ikeja office of FOU.
Customs Area Controller of the unit, Mohammed Uba who has now been transferred to Seme boarder said the truck with registration number XB 286 BEN was accosted along Igbueleri junction, close to Alaba international containing DSP codeine Cough Syrup of100 milegrams packs,100 per carton as well as Chaka pain extra based on information.
He said the 49 cartons of 100 milligrams of tramadol impounded would be handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control, NAFDAC.
He said other seized items within were “21sacks of pangolin scales weighing 1,031 kilogram and four pieces of elephant tusk weighing 29.35 kilogram from a shop located in Tejuosho market in Yaba based on information by the warehouse operations team.
“The seized endangered species have a DPV of N253.6 million while the items were seized because the trade on endangered species in globally prohibited, hence the need for us all to fight against such illegality .” Comptroller Uba noted that the unit also intercepted “one Ford Transit bus conveying 39 sacks and 1,220 parcels of cannabis sativa popularly known as Indian hemp weighing 1,610 kilograms concealed with baskets of fresh tomato’s, pepper and vegetables.
“The items would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for further investigation.
“Other seized items includes 17 units of exotic vehicles, 1,380 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 1,126 pieces of used shoes and 140 jerry cans of vegetable oil and Eight suspects were arrested in connection with these seizures .”
