COVID 19: NGOs give palliatives to 100 women in Bauchi


As part of efforts to bring succour to the needy in Bauchi state especially when the state government closed markets and imposed partial lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) in the state known as ‘Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative (FAWOYDI) in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada and Actionaid Thursday gave out palliatives to 100 women.


Speaking while flagging off the distribution of the items, the executive director of FAWOYDI Hajiya Maryam Garba explained that the beneficiaries include widows, disabled and poor women selected from three local governments of Bauchi, Giade and Alkaleri in the state.


According to her, the donated items include rice, maize, groundnut oil, spaghetti noodles and sanitary kits including buckets and liquid soap among others.


She reiterated that coronavirus is real and admonished the women to always take precautionary measures such as physical distancing, wearing face masks as well as regular handwashing.


“Coronavirus is real. It is communicable and deadly. I urge fellow women to comply with experts’ advice in order to stay safe and healthy.


“We are giving out these items to assist you. We cannot take care of everyone, but we believe these can help the selected beneficiaries.


“Please make sure you make good use of the sanitary kits like the soaps by washing your hands regularly. Please don’t sell them out. They are meant for your use. May God see us through as we grapple to fight this pandemic”. She advised them.


Responding, one of the beneficiaries Mrs Ladi Zumunta thanked the three NGOs for the gesture saying the foods stuffs would alleviate their suffering as they have many children to feed despite their poor financial condition.
