COVID-19:  MTN donates 604,000 Johnson and Johnson vaccine to NPHCDA

The management of the MTN Wednesday donated 604,000 Johnson and Johnson vaccine to the federal government through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The brief ceremony held at the Garki headquarters of the agency in Abuja was attended by a representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Representative of the MTN, Hajiya Amina Dambata, remarked that there was scarcity of vaccine when the pandemic broke out and the company decided to place order for the vaccine to assist African countries.

She said the vaccine which cost the company 25 million dollars was ordered with the knowledge of the African Union (AU). She expressed gratitude to the FGN for accepting the vaccine.

The NPHCDA Director of Disease Control and Immunisation, Dr. Bassey Okposen, who represented the executive director, Dr Faisal Shuaib, said over 47 million eligible Nigerians took the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine while 30 per cent are fully vaccinated.

He warned that COVID-19 is still very much around contrary to the thinking of many that it is a thing of the past. He expressed the gratitude of the FGN to MTN for donating the vaccine.
