COVID-19: Group distributes palliatives to the vulnerable in FCT

An Abuja based Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Sure Smiles Women and Children Advocacy Initiative (SSWCAI) Thursday , distributed palliatives to the vulnerable in the Federal Capital Territory to cushioned the effect of lockdown.

The leader of the, Dr Udegbunam Chioma, said the palliatives was distributed to the vulnerable in various communities in the Territory.

She said at this critical time it is very necessary to be there for the poor and needy in this trying times of the pandemic to cushion the effect on the people who could not afford to feed because of the Sit- at- home order declared earlier by Mr. president Muhammadu Buhari in other to contain the spread of the dreaded pandemic novel virus.

Her words: “The outbreak Covid – 19 has actually exposed our inefficiency in various areas, be it education health, humanitarian just name it, we have actually not gotten things right in this country. “

“When you come to this communities, who are actually in lockdown you would then see this women who does petty trading that could not go to sale at their usual places or markets, they remain in their house with their stuffs and hunger threatening their lives. This people easily fall sick and when they do, they don’t even have money to buy drugs and community clinics don’t have the necessary medical equipment or ordinary drugs to take care of this people.”

“So realising all this, we are touched and moved to even do more in order to be a able see that they are taken care of,” She added

She said the foundation hopes to reach out to at least 2,500 less privileged households in the FCT.
