Court remands man over robbery, rape

A Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi has remanded a 32- year-old man, David Ternenge, in prison custody for alleged armed robbery and rape.

Ternenge, who resides at Judges Quaters, Makurdi, was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, armed robbery and rape.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Franca Yuwa, gave the order after going through the First Information Report against the accused.
Yuwa ordered that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
Prosecutor James Onwone had told the court that Gloria Agan of Judges Quaters, Makurdi, lodged a report against the accused at the Police Headquarters’, Makurdi, on April 28, 2014.

Onwone said that the accused conspired with Terlumun Iorhemba, now at large, and broke into the complainant’s house while she was sleeping, attacked and disposed her of the sum of N20, 000 then had carnal knowledge of her.
He said that the offence contravened Section 6(b), 1(1), (2) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap RII Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section 283 of Penal Code.
Yuwa adjourned the case till June 18.
