A former Minister of Commerce, Ambassador Adamu Waziri, has enjoined politicians in the country to use opportunity for the forthcoming Centenary celebration to turn a new leaf and rescue Nigeria from the jugulars of visionless leadership where power is seen as a selfish game to amass wealth.
Waziri, who was speaking at the 6th anniversary lecture of the Press Gallery newspapers in Abuja yesterday, lambasted both the leaders and the led for lacking the patriotism, hard work, honesty and discipline capable of launching the country to the next level of development.

He regretted that what thrived in the country at the moment is “ephemeral patriotism which only brings the citizens of the country together when Nigeria is involved in international sporting competitions.”
According to him, there is the need for such patriotism to cut across all the spheres of the country’s life to improve Nigeria’s unity and not only during sporting activities with other countries.

He, however, expressed optimism that the country would continue to be one correct some of these ills in time to come, stressing that after all the vices associated with leadership in the country, she would bask in good governance as well as hard work, honesty and discipline.
He said: “As an incurable optimist, I foresee Nigeria basking in good leadership, I foresee the country where tribe and language attachments will be a thing of the past; I see a Nigeria hard work, discipline and honesty will be the hallmark of leadership.”
