Breaking: Kidnapped Edo PDP chairman regains freedom

The chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, has regained his freedom after spending 11 days in kidnappers’ den.

He was reportedly released in the early hours of Tuesday, much to the delight of anxious relatives and associates.

A former Senator from Edo Central, Odion Ugbesia and associate of the PDP chairman broke the news of his release.

The PDP chairman was taken hostage by armed gang on March 15, 2024.

Blueprint reports that his abductors thereafter went incommunicado for six days, a development that fuelled anxiety over his safety.

However, the kidnappers later made contacted with his family member last Friday and opened negotiation over his freedom.

Blueprint gathered that the gang demanded for N500 million ransom to free Aziegbemi, a claim the state police command  spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, denied knowledge of.

It could not immediately be ascertained if the PDP chair’s abductors collected ransom before setting him free.

The police spokesman was yet to respond to enquiry over Aziegbemi’s release as of the time of filing this report.
