Breaking: Chelsea overpower Rennes, land in Champions League last 16

Chelsea qualified for the Champions League last-16 – but made hard work of it against Rennes.

A goal from Callum Hudson-Odoi, given a rare start, put Frank Lampard’s side into the driving seat.

Chelsea dominated the early stages and should have gone in to the break more goals to the good, Timo Werner missing a sitter.

But Rennes came into it more in the second half, and Serhou Guirassy powered a header home to equalise five minutes from time.

But sub Olivier Giroud thumped home his own header to win it in injury time.
