Breaking: 6 killed, scores injured as fuel tanker ramms into tricycles in Akwa Ibom

No fewer than six persons have been confirmed dead and dozens injured in a fatal road accident which occurred along Ntak Inyang road leading to Calabar-Itu Highway involving a fuel tanker and two tricycles.
The incident took place on Monday at the dual carriage portion of the road which is currently being repaired by the state government after it was cut off by landslide, forcing all motorists to play just one lane of the highway.

It was gathered from some eyewitnesses at the scene that the tricycles were conveying school children and some passengers before the unfortunate circumstance occurred.
A source who pleaded anonymity told Blueprint that  the congestion on the free lane compacted the traffic leading to the accident.

“The fuel truck rammed into the approaching tricycle from the opposite direction resulting in the accident,” the source said
Confirming the incident, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Ogah Ochi, said six persons including one female and five males lost their lives, assuring that a detailed investigative report would be published on Tuesday
According to Ochi, “Actually six people died. One female and five males. An actual detailed investigation will come out by tomorrow (Tuesday).

“Our investigators have gone there and the preliminary report they have given me I think confirms that two trucks were actually involved in the crash, but one escaped.”
Ochi, who said the truck that actually caused the accident ran away, explaining that the causal truck tried to overtake at that point while the other truck was trying to veer off from the truck that was over taking and then ran into the tricycles.
