Breaking – President Cup: Team Nigeria hit Morocco, set for action as NTF rallies support

No fewer than 13-member contingent, comprising of nine Taekwondo Athletes and four Coaches successfully landed inside Casablanca airport on Thursday and immediately headed to Agadir in  Morocco ahead of annual President Cup slated between Friday and Saturday.

Confirming the latest development, a tweet from the official twitter handle of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) Thursday evening read: “National TKD Team arrives Casablanca, en route to Agadir for WT President Cup. 9 athletes, 4 coaches. NTF President Binga to officiate at event & WTAF member, Jonathan Nnaji, en route for WTAF congress.”

The members of the team gathered in Lagos from their various locations in parts of the country on Wednesday and departed early on Thursday.

According to the tweet, while NTF President Elizabeth Binga will be officiating at the competition, Jonathan Nnaji, a member of NTF board who is also a board member of World Taekwondo Africa would take part.

As at the time of filling this report, the full list of contingent was yet to be accessed.

However, three National Champions – Benjamin Okumose, Ife Oluwa and Elizabeth Anyanacho were among the Athletes who made the trip to the North African Nation.

The event is taking place, barely one month to next month’s World Taekwondo Championship.

Three months later, the Africa Games and Olympic qualifiers would take place.

Speaking earlier, NTF Technical Director and three time Olympian Chika Chukwumerije expressed confidence that the President Cup would be a veritable training ground for Nigerian Athletes to brace up ahead of other major tournaments in the current busy sporting year.

Chukwumerije however, solicited more funding support to enable the federation ensure adequate preparations.
