Boundary management: We’re reviewing strategies – DG

The National Boundary commission has reiterated commitment in reviewing strategies and management techniques aimed at ensuring effective boundary management in the country.

The director-general of the commission, Mr Adamu Adaji, stated this Friday at the opening ceremony of a one-day interactive session with states’ boundary committees at the Government House, Kano.

Adaji said boundary disputes had been the main reason the federal government established the commission decades ago with the aim of curtailing the challenge.

He said the main objective of interactive session was to discuss with state boundary committees to agree on a veritable framework for strengthening the capacity of boundary managers in the states targeted at achieving the stated objectives.

According to him, the commission has recorded tremendous successes, particularly in the areas of definition of many interstates boundaries in the North-west.

In his remarks, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje represented by his deputy, Alhaji Nasir Yusif Gawuna, said the interactive forum was timely, “especially at this era of security challenges bedevelling the economic development of the zone.”

He said the North-western states shared much in common and as such there was the need to rub minds with the aim addressing the boundary challenges.
