Secretary to the Borno State Government (SSG), Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda, has said that the proposed National Conference would give Nigerians the opportunity to discuss issues or areas of their differences and chart a course forward for the nation.
Jidda, who was a member of National Political Reform Conference during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, and National Constituent Assembly, in 1988, during the regime of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, said contrary to the belief in certain quarters, the confab would unite the country.
He said: “Nobody would go to the conference with a motive to call for the division of the country but rather discuss ways of resolving our differences.”
The SSG also appraised the call by the chairman Northern Governors Forum(NGF) Alhaji Babangida Aliyu that North would participate in the conference, stressing that Nigerians needed to dialogue.
He however cautioned President Goodluck Jonathan against dumping report of the conference as was done in the past, including the report of the Uwais committee on national political reform and the Ambassador Gaji Galtimari report on Boko Haram reconciliation, among others.
