Boko Haram kills 48 in fresh Borno attack

—  Gives Magumeri village attack notice

Barely 24 hours after Boko Haram insurgents took over Mafa local government area of Borno state, killing over 80 people in a battle that lasted for over seven hours, the sect has attacked Jakana town in Konduga local government area, killing not less than 48 people.

Residents who fled the area to Maiduguri, the state capital, told newsmen that the attackers had destroyed all their property and killed many people before the arrival of security operatives.
A witness, Babakura Maidugu, said: “When they came into the town, we thought they were soldiers, until they began to shout the usual ‘Allahu Akbar’ and started spraying bullets on anything that we realised we were being surrounded by Boko Haram, not soldiers.

“We all took to our heels those that were hit by the attackers’ bullets fell and some of us that were lucky found ourselves in Maiduguri, near the military checkpoint at Computer village in the outskirt of the city.”
He said he learnt from some women from the area who arrived Maiduguri yesterday that almost all the houses in the village were burnt by the insurgents.
“They said there was nobody living in the town except for security officials. I was also told that the Environmental Vanguard have gone to evacuate the corpses,” he added.

Speaking on the continued violence and killings in the state, the Lord Bishop of Maiduguri Diocese of the Catholic Church, Most Reverend Dr. Oliver Dashe, called on government to find ways to end the crisis before it went out of control, adding that it was God’s intervention that gave them the wisdom to evacuate their students at Minor Seminary at Shuwa in Adamawa state when the sect members came calling, otherwise the disaster would have been worse.

Meanwhile, residents of Magumeri local government area in Borno state have begun fleeing the area following an alleged letter written to them by Boko Haram that they were coming to attack them.
