BMU celebrates Emeritus Prof Briggs on posthumous national honours

 

The Bayelsa State Medical University (BMU) has organised a special valedictory convocation in honour of Abonema’s illustrious academia, the late Emeritus Prof. Nimi. D. Briggs, a former Pro-Chancellor of the university, on his posthumous honour as the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) bestowed on him by the federal government.

The ceremony was held at the Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital with a procession of academics, pro-chancellors and other eminenet Bayelsans from all walks of life.

 Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of BMU, Professor Ebitimitula Etebu, elogised the late Pro-Chancellor, Emeritus Prof. Nimi Briggs, describing him as an achiever whose legacies keep resonating in the academic world.

Etebu said late Prof. Briggs multiplied himself all over the world with his scholarly publications and the numbers of professors he has produced.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Paingha Joe Alagoa, said it would take long to fill the gap created by the late Prof. Nimi Briggs.

Alagoa stressed that nobody could step into the shoes left by the departed Emeritus Prof. Briggs.
