Blueprint Sports Editor emerges as FCT SWAN scribe

The Sports Editor (weekend) of Blueprint Newspapers, Comrade Ikenna Okonkwo, has emerged the General Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Sports Writer’s Association of Nigeria.

Okonkwo, in a keenly contested election, defeated Mr. Chris Onekpegu of Armed Forces Radio, Abuja. He polled 57 votes; against Onekpegu’s 34.

Other winners of the election held on Thursday at the Abuja National Stadium were:

Ndubueze Chidoka of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Tolulope Oguntimehin of Independent Television, Salifu Abubakar Usman of Leadership Newspapers, Albert Akota of Peoples’ Daily, and Joel Ajayi of Aljazirah Newspapers who emerged as Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary and Financial Secretary respectively .

The aforementioned all won their respective posts unopposed.

In his acceptance speech, Okonkwo pledged to use latest technological means to ensure steady flow of information among members of the association and to take the association to an enviable height.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FRCN Headquarters Chapel, has hailed the election of one of its members, Mr. Ndubueze Chidoka, as the Chairman of FCT chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
