BEDC to distribute 200, 200 prepaid meters in Delta

Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has started the distribution of 200,200 prepaid meters in Delta state.

Executive director, commercial of BEDC, Mr.  Abu Ejoor, who stated this in Asaba during media launch of the state meter asset provider (MAP) scheme and other updates, said the idea was to eliminate estimated billing practices.

He said: “A total number of 200,200 meters will be rolled out in Delta State in the next two years with a monthly cumulative average at round 10,000 units, he said.

“Map will carry out meters rollout location by location,  route by route,  street by street,  while enumeration is a prerequisite for meters to be provider under map.

Ejoor encouraged customers to cooperate with the enumeration trains that will be visiting premises to benefit from the initiative.

“Our customers are required to complete the customer data and the survey form, after which the MAP officials will assess the customer’s premises in readiness for metering. One a customer premises is cleared, he will be advised on how to pay for the meter, whether single phase or 3 phase.

“In Delta state, metering will be taking off from Asaba and eventually move into all local government locations.”

The commercial director said BEDC was committed to improving service delivery to all customers noting that they had connected 112 communities without supply in the coverage area to the national grid with 55 of such areas located in the state.
