AUPCTRE to FG: Don’t sweep infractions against CAC boss under carpet

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) Tuesday called on the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to finalise investigations into alleged infractions against the Registrar General of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Garba Abubakar.

General Secretary of AUPCTRE, Comrade Sikiru Waheed, in an interview in Abuja called on the federal government agency to salvage the commission and redeem it from graft.

He said, “As a union we have petitioned the Registrar General of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) at Court of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The reason being that there are a lot of infractions relating to financial management in the CAC.

“It is based on that we asking the CCT to look at the issues so as to see if the action is in conformity with public service practice or his own idea of running the public service. We know that there are rules guiding the public service but we can see clearly that he has gone outside, violating those rules.

“So for us, we don’t want to apportion any role to ourselves, and that is why we want the CCT to look at the issue and that is why we sent this letter to them.

“The Registrar General has an approval limit of N2.5 million according to the Procurement Act, but he for instance made approval of about N5 million to the legal team, J.S Okutepa (SAN) and Co.

“I was invited by the CCB which is the pre-condition for issues like this to be handled and made statement on the issues we raised. I believe that they are going to carry out thorough investigation and I’m sure they must have passed their findings since the petition is before them, to be able do the needful.

“Our prayer is that anybody no matter how highly placed that goes against the law of the land should be made to face the music. But because the union, we have our coverage in CAC where we represent the workers there as a trade union and is familiar with what is happening there and since the RG if find wanting should be made to face the music.

“We have fact and figures, we have vouchers that were signed, we have documents of payments made and every other issue and these were placed before the CCT. Let them look at the documents,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has described the allegations against as false and baseless.

Reacting to the petition by AUPCTRE, the Director Public Affairs of the CAC, Duke Ukaga, said the Commission is fully committed to the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari and will not in any way be party to corrupt practices.

“The CAC will continue to work hard to achieve the objectives for which it was established to the satisfaction of its customers and stakeholders. The Commission will not be distracted by mischief makers who are bent on running the Commission down,” he said.
