Atiku, campaign manager differ over N.5bn debt

The chairman of a socio-political organisation, Nigeria Continuity and Progressive (NCP), Dr. Lawal Sambo Ismaila, has begged former vice president and presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to save him from his creditors who are after his life over N500,000,000 campaign debt.

The sum, he said, was incurred as a result of working for the PDP candidate during the 2019 election.

But the former VP has said he would not comment on the matter which is currently before a competent court of jurisdiction.

But Ismaila said the pressure became more intense after the over 200 groups that worked with him to execute the campaign contract got a hint that Atiku promised to make an out-of-court settlement and pay them the money in full, which unfortunately has not been paid into their bank account as promised.

He said: “Over 200 groups spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory were contracted by our organization, NCP, thinking that the money in question would be paid immediately, but to no avail.

“We went to an Abuja High Court to help us recover the money, and they promised to pay us the debt without further delay, even though we are still in court. We gave them our UBA account details, but till today, the money has not been paid.”

The NCP dragged Abubakar before an FCT High Court holding in Abuja over an alleged N500, 000,000 campaign debt.

In the writ of summons signed by Danmusa Williams, registrar of the court in a suit number CU/2065/200, the former vice president alongside the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Dr. Nat Yaduma, were to appear before the court for failing or refusing to pay NCP their engagement fee for about two years of the contract agreement.

When contacted on Sunday by our reporter on the telephone, Abubakar through his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, said he was not responding to the issue because “the matter is in court.”

Ibe said: “Why is he taking the case before a competent court to the media? I am not responding to it. The matter is in court, so you can’t be talking about a matter that is in court.”
