APC warns Hunkuyi, associates not to attend state congresses

The Governor Nasir el-Rufai faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi and other factions not to attend or foment trouble during the state congresses, scheduled to start on Saturday.
It would be recalled that there are APC Akida and Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi factions of APC in Kaduna state.
Hunkuyi has been suspended and most of his associates have also been expelled by the main faction.
Acting Secretary of the party in the state, Alhaji Yahaya Baba Pate, told newsmen yesterday in Kaduna during a briefing that “there are indications that suspended and expelled members of the party are planning to disrupt the congresses,” and warned that “such moves will be met with resistance and dealt with according to the Law.”
Speaking at the party secretariat, Pate, who absolved the main faction of any complicity in the recent attacks on Senator Hunkuyi and another ex-APC chieftain, Alhaji Tijjani Ramalan, by gunmen at a meeting, noted that they “are peace-loving people, who respect others’ freedom of speech and association and would not do anything to jeorpadise that.”
“We wish to inform members of the general public that the party has uncovered Senator Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi’s illegal attempt to undermine the APC’s congresses in Kaduna state, starting from May 5, 2018.
“In line with the provisions of the APC’s constitution, the party membership of Senator Hunkuyi was suspended on February 17, 2018, for offences related to factionalising the party and anti-party activities. Several of his associates were also expelled from the party on the same day for gross violations of party discipline.
“Due to the suspension of his membership, Senator Hunkuyi cannot directly or indirectly participate in the activities of the APC or convene any gathering in the name of the party, contrary to what he is presently doing.”
