APC chair: Osunbor steps down, backs Oshiomhole

Barely two days to the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), one of the aspirants for the office of National Chairman, former Governor of Edo state, Senator Osereimhen Osunbor, has stepped down from the race.
Osunbor said this in a statement he issued in the early hours of yesterday, adding that his decision was based on respect for President Muhammadu Buhari and the need to avoid any rancour in the party.
The former governor, who announced his intention to run forbthe office atva press conference last week, said his intention to run for the coveted position has attracted intervention from critical stakeholders who had met with a view to appealing to him to step aside as a way of creating room for a hitch free convention.
In the statement, Osunbor said: “It is common knowledge that I am vying for the position of National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress at the forthcoming national convention for reasons I stated in my press release last week.”
“However, after extensive discussions and consultations across the various levels in the party and amongst my family, friends and associates, I hereby issue the following statement:
“I have decided to withdraw from the race and also endorse Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole. Accordingly, I hereby withdraw my candidature.
I thank all those who have expressed support for my candidature but who may feel disappointed by this development. I crave the understanding of everyone.”
