Anti-corruption groups under the auspices of Civil Society Coalition for Change, (CSCC) have accused the 10 Constitutional lawyers that took the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to court over the weak naira, corruption and money laundering, saying it would efforts in futility.
The group in a statement signed on behalf of other nine organisations by the National Coordinator, Comrade Femi Lawson, said the leadership of the current CBN governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has been one of the best since the establishment of the bank, which according to him can be attested to by the several steps taken to cushion the effects of the economic downturn that is not only affecting Nigeria, but other countries as well.

It said the lawyers should rather channel their efforts at helping the bank with suggestions and information on how Nigeria could overcome its present challenges and not continue in a witch hunt that seen to suggest that a personal vendetta rather than a collective interest of the nation.
It said the apex bank’s efforts could be seen in the recent successful agreement Nigerian had with the Peoples   Republic of China, adding that the woe should not be blamed on the bank. It therefore commended the governor on his employment initiatives, urging Nigerians to support him.

“It is an abuse of the court for some people who think because they are lawyers so they should run to court at every single opportunity they have, yet they have no idea of what is going on with the economic circle instead of help the management to proffer solution to the problem that is affecting everyone.
“The governor of Central bank should not be crucified for problem that existed long before he took over the mantle of leadership, we should rather be thinking of way of this and that is what the management of the apex bank and the government has been doing. This is not the time for undue distractions in the name of court suit,” the statement stated.
