Another Super Eagles star to miss Ghana, Mali friendlies

Super Eagles defender, Tyronne Ebuehi will miss the upcoming international friendlies matches against Ghana and Mali respectively.

Blueprint can report that Nigeria will take on Ghana’s Black Stars and Les Aigles of Mali in two top-grade friendly matches in the Moroccan city of Marrakech later this month. Nigeria will play Ghana on March 22 while that of Mali will take place two days later at the same venue.

This follows an official statement from his club’s website, Empoli stating that the 28-year-old suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during their Serie A encounter with Bologna last Friday.

The Nigeria international had to be taken off in the 66th of the game and was replaced by Ghanaian right back Emmanuel Gyasi.

Ebuehi has been struggling with his fitness since the turn of the year, having just recovered from a hamstring injury which kept him out of action until this month.

He has featured in two Serie A games since the start of 2024, a direct contrast to his fitness levels during the start of the season, where he didn’t miss any game due to injury.

This would be a big blow for the Netherlands-born fullback who must have been hoping to regain his place in the Super Eagles.

Ebuehi was sidelined for the most part of José  Peseiro’s reign as coach, featuring in just two games under the departed Portuguese tactician and missing the just concluded AFCON.

Blueprint Sports can report that Taiwo Awoniyi, Gabriel Osho are out of the friendlies encounter due to various degree of injury they sustained while plying their trade for their various clubs in Europe.
