Anambra promises ‘enhanced welfare package’ to corps members posted to riverine areas

Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on Monday, assured corps members posted to riverine areas and other disadvantaged communities that the state government would reward their efforts through enhanced welfare packages.

Obiano disclosed this at the closure of 2019 Batch C stream I orientation course for corps members deployed to Anambra state, who incidentally, were the first batch of corps members to use the newly built NYSC permanent orientation camp located at Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA.

He said, “Modalities for enhanced payment of corps members serving in hard to reach terrains has reached the stage of implementation. This is to encourage those of you who would find yourselves in such location to put in your best in the discharge of your primary assignment.”
The governor, represented by the state Head of Service, Barr. Harry Uduh, acknowledged that corps members had contributed immensely in lifting the state education, health and agricultural sectors, and urged them to sustain the tempo.
He also charged them to utilise the experience garnered during the three weeks camping to impact positively on their host communities, assuring that their efforts would be duly rewarded.

Earlier, the Anambra State Coordinator, NYSC, Mr Aremu Kehinde, warned corps members against embarking on ‘unnecessary journeys,’ noting that opportunities abound for them if they spend the one year service in Anambra “imbibing the spirit of Anambra which is that of residence, entrepreneurship, hope, love and unity.”

According to Kehinde, “A total of 1888 corps members went through this course here in Anambra camp but we shall be receiving about 500 others who were dislodged to Enugu and Delta States because of fears of the unavailability of this facility. With successful completion of this course, I believe all such fears are gone forever and never again will Anambra corps members be dislodged to do orientation course in any state for whatever reason.”
