Alleged coup: Ohaneze rallies support for Tinubu’s government

Ohaneze Ndigbo Tuesday called on the military to continually support President Bola Tinubu’s government.

This was as the Secretary General of Ohaneze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro restated the resolve of Ndigbo to support the ruling government.

Isiguzoro in a statement said that Ndigbo would never participate in any protest against Tinubu’s government neither would they participate in any alleged coup d’etat.

The statement reads, “Amidst the myriad economic setbacks including famine, insecurity, and Naira depreciation, OHANAEZE NDIGBO, the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, unequivocally denounces any hint of a coup d’état. Ndigbo makes it crystal clear that they vehemently reject and will never condone any form of coup in Nigeria.

“We pledge steadfast allegiance to the democratically elected Federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. Ndigbo has shown unwavering faith in his administration despite attempts to instigate Igbo protests against Tinubu. This message serves as a firm condemnation of coup rumours and a stark warning to those spreading disunity, discord, and disruption – elements who fuel hardship and economic sabotage.

“Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, OHANAEZE NDIGBO’s Secretary-General, emphasizes the critical need for political stability in Nigeria. Supporting Tinubu’s success stands as a crucial interest for Ndigbo, known for their self-reliance and resilience.

“Past periods of political instability saw Ndigbo unfairly targeted, leading to dire consequences. Any disruption in governance is likely to usher in an era of anarchy and chaos, exacerbating the already dire situation faced by the Nigerian populace.

“In recognition of their dedication to maintaining peace and safeguarding Nigeria’s integrity against threats like terrorism and insurgency, OHANAEZE NDIGBO commends the Nigerian Military. We applaud their rejection of coup speculations and their unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu. Furthermore, we commend Tinubu for initiating the Orosanye Reports to reduce the cost of governance.

“NDIGBO yearns to witness a thriving Nigeria under Tinubu’s administration and urges him to oversee significant reductions in remuneration and operational costs across all arms of government. The ongoing protests are fueled by the public’s perception of extravagant living by the ruling class while imposing austerity on the citizens.

“Nigerians and Ndigbo advocate for Tinubu’s involvement in the emerging economic bloc BRICS, inspired by Egypt’s decision to halt the use of dollars for trade. Such a move would bolster the Naira and deter its exploitation.

“Ndigbo believes that Tinubu possesses the ability to steer Nigeria out of its current economic woes, fostering an environment where businesses can flourish nationwide. As economic drivers, Ndigbo stand ready to throw their support behind Tinubu’s success”.
