The Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO) in Edo state has cried out over alleged marginalisation of defunct Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) members in the state government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) structure.
Prior to the 2015 general elections, four political parties, namely, Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and CPC merged and metamorphosed to the now APC.
Th e APC thereafter went on to win the presidential election and retain Edo State during the last governorship poll in 2016.
However, the BYO in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC chairman, Chief John Oyegun alleged that some persons were bent on erasing the legacies of the defunct CPC in Edo State.
In the letter endorsed by BYO leader, Mr.
Daudu Momoh, former Vice Chairman (Edo Central senatorial district), Chief Solomon Enabo, the state legal Adviser; Alhaji Aliko Haruna (Ex-offi cio) and others, the group drew attention to the removal of Comrade Godwin Erhahon as spokesman of Edo APC.
While calling for the immediate reinstatement of Erhahon, the BYO said former was the State chairman of CPC until the party’s merger in 2014.
The BYO further demanded fair representation of CPC legacy in both party structure and government at all levels.
“The continuous alienation of those of us from CPC legacy in both government, party structure, even in campaign activities, continue to serve as painful and humiliating reminder that we are unwanted component in Edo APC”, the group said.
Besides, it faulted the comment credited to the state Publicity Secretary of APC, Chris Azebamwan to the effect that “CPC legacy never deserve a space in the party”.
