Again, 8 killed as suspected herders attack another Agatu community 




At least eight persons have been killed when bandits suspected be herders, Saturday night, attacked Ogwumogbo community in Agatu local government area of Benue state.

The suspected herders, who carried sophisticated weapons, were said to have stormed the area around 7pm and started shooting sporadically, and killing anyone on sight.

Oche Hyacinth, a resident of the area, who said eight bodies were recovered on Sunday, noted that there was likelihood that more bodies would be recovered.

He said when the attack was going on, many people particularly women and children ran to the bush to escape being killed by the marauders.

According to Oche, “many people are still missing as at this afternoon and it is not certain whether they are dead or alive.

“Residents of Ogwumogbo, Ikpele, Ejima and Okpokpolo have all deserted their homes in tick bush,” he added.

When contacted Agatu local government Council Caretaker Chairman, Hon Yakubu Ochepo, confirmed the attack and said he was on the way to Makurdi, to brief the Governor after which he will he speak with journalists and give them details of the attack.

It could be noted that Agatu in recent times have been under serious attack, a situation that has resulted to death of over 40 persons including even soldiers and civilians.
