African Games: Nigeria Volleyball, Rugby unveil squad

The Head Coach of Nigeria women’s senior volleyball team, Samuel Ajayi has included COAS Spikers player, Ijeoma Ukpabi in his 12-man squad for the 13th African Games in Ghana.

The 13th African Games will take place in Ghana from 8th to 23rd March, 2024.

Aliyah Usman, Maryam Ibrahim, Ifunanya Udeagbala, Blessing Unekwe, Deborah Chukwu Mmesomachi Okekearu Kelechi Ndukauba and Mariam Usman will be making their debut at the African Games following their performances in the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League 

Helen Umeh, Sharon Achi and Happy Wushilang are among the regulars included in the squad.

Samuel Ajayi said the selection of the team is a combination of experienced and young active players who will make the country proud.

Ajayi said the Nigeria Volleyball Federation camped the players before the ministry of sports development took over.

Also, the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has unveiled the official squad list for the Lady Stallions set to compete in the African Games.

Comprising a total of 15 players, the squad features a blend of talent from both home and abroad, aimed at securing a podium finish in Ghana.

The finalised roster includes ten home-based players and five from foreign clubs, highlighting the depth and diversity of talent within the Nigerian rugby community. 

Leading the charge are standout athletes such as Iyorha Success, Becky Okitikpi, and Augustar Efe from Edo Rugby Club, along with notable names like Perpetua Mmanma and Aladeyelu Blessing representing Eco 11 and Delta Rugby Club, respectively.

Joining the squad from abroad are seasoned players including Fedelia Omoghan, Glory Ezeude, and Ada Okonkwo hailing from Canada, while Achele Agada brings her expertise from the UK, and Roseline Okpara represents the USA.
