Accept defeat, shun appeal – ex commissioner urges PDP

Kano state immediate past Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to waste its time by appealing the judgement of Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

This is contained in a statement he signed in Kano Wednesday following the verdict of the Kano state Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which validated the election of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the judgement, the tribunal dismissed the petition of the PDP and its governorship candidate, Abba Kabir-Yusuf.
“The opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should, therefore, accept defeat with dignity and shelve any temptation to appeal the verdict of the tribunal which dismissed its case on Wednesday,” he said.
Garba, who was reacting on the tribunal’s verdict, said PDP should desist from wasting its time and resources in appealing the case they clearly lost.

He said having closely observed the tribunal’s proceedings, the PDP could not prove its case and the case was thrown out for lack of merit.

“PDP and its candidate have no case to appeal the judgment, but they should demonstrate the spirit of sportsmanship and avoid overheating the polity by giving the people false impression that it was rigged out during the election,” he said.

He urged residents particularly members and supporters of the APC to remain calm and avoid being tempted to engage in violence as security agents would not condone break down of law and order in the state. (NAN)
