Abiodun meets APC caucus over commissioners

Ogun state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured that his list of commissioners would soon be ready.

The governor, who made the disclosure after a closed door meeting with the state caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the list of his cabinet members and other issues in the party, was however, silent on the date the list would be made known.

The meeting, which was held at the state party secretariat at the weekend was attended by former Governor Olusegun Osoba and other serving and former political office holders as well as prominent chieftains of the party.

The roll call at the meeting included, Senator Tolu Odebiyi, Senator Lanre Tejuoso, Senator Adegbenga Kaka, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, Prince Segun Adesegun, Chief Bode Mustapha, Hon. Adekunle Adesina, Hon. Titi Oseni-Gomez, Hon Olumide Osoba, Hon Adekunle Adeyemi and Chief Yemi Sanusi.

Also in attendance was the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who is also a serving senator, representing Ogun Central senatorial district was conspicuously absent at the meeting.

Amosun’s absence might not be unconnected with the role he played during the electioneering campaign where he worked against the emergence of Governor Abiodun.

Amosun’s role had also earned him a suspension by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, headed by the national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomole.

Speaking about the outcome of the meeting, which lasted for over four hours, Governor Abiodun said he used the opportunity of the meeting, which was the first ever since he won the election, to intimate the party caucus the activities of his administration for the past three and half months.

The governor also disclosed that, he discussed the issue of the expiration of term of the chairmen of 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) with the party leaders.

According to him, he intends to appoint caretaker chairmen to oversee the activities of the 20 local government areas and 37 Local Council development areas (LCDAs).

“Generally, it was an opportunity for leadership at the caucus level to ventilate and for us as government to pass information to them. At the end of the day, we had a very fruitful deliberation.”

“And because I have said that this government will be participatory, I shared with them (party caucus) the process that would require them to also contribute to that nomination of candidates for commissioners”, the governor added.

Meanwhile, Governor Abiodun has constituted a 51-member Governors’ Elders Council (GEC) comprising of major stakeholders in the state.
