Abia union in FCT to improve security, enlighten voters

The 13th president of Item Union Abuja, Chief Iheanyi Kalu, weekend said  as a result of growing insecurity in different parts of the country, including the Item community in Abia state, the union will next year, extend its support to strengthen the security network of the community.

He said it will be done through the provision of one central security Sienna vehicle, provision of security gadgets, provision of 18 motorcycles, in order to enhance the operations of the security network with a better and rapid response to any location in the community.

Speaking Sunday in Abuja at the end of year/ silver jubilee celebration of the union, Kalu said the union will also engage in voter mobilisation and enlightenment in order to ensure that the electorate gets their PVCs to elect credible leaders. He appealed for financial support of members and indigenes to achieve the objectives.

He said: “The coming year, 2023 is very critical with national elections (Presidential and National Assembly) and state elections (Governorship and State Houses of Assembly) billed to hold in February and March respectively. The population of the Nigerian youth for me is an asset and portends a brighter and healthier country. However, most of the youth today are yet to realise their potentials and the space they naturally occupy in the call for nation building.

“The Nigerian youth wherever they are found, could be agent of positive development if their potentials are diligently harnessed. They could as well be misguided or willfully misdirect their youthful energy and exuberant to unproductive ventures. The resultant effect will be an increase in social vices, crop of youth who are lean and easily subscribe to unholy and evil ways of getting rich. This eventually reduces their chances of building a better future for themselves and the society at large.”
