Abia at 32: Our must be on right track – Deputy Speaker



The Deputy Speaker Abia House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ugochukwu Okezie Mmeregini, has said that the Labour Party-led administration, was not interested in elaborate celebration of Abia at 32 years of its creation because the distance to create a new Abia was still very far.


He added that state must be on the right track before one could think of fanfare, but lamented that the distance to create a new Abia state of their dream was still very far.


Honourable Mmeregini said the Labour Party-led government was not interested in fanfare for now because the distance to create a new Abia was very far.


He said, “we are evolving, this is a new era in the state; we are not interested in fanfare for now, the distance is still very far even though we have started very commendably.


To this end, Mmeregini said that Dr Alex Chioma Otti was devoting attention to recreate Abia of our dreams, “therefore there is no room for frivolous celebration at the moment when the huge infrastrural deficits is staring the Labour Party led administration in the face as well as wellbeing of Abians which they have vowed to tackle headlong.


Earlier, Abia state governor represented by his deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, called for prayers as his administration was poised to transforming the state through people -oriented policies and programmes.


The governor said his administration would pay attention to some critical areas such as accountability, transparency and ensuring that the campaign promises were implemented to the latter.On his part, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters, Apostle Kenneth Wiper, said plans were underway to introduce chaplaincy in the school curriculum which he said was geared towards teaching the pupils and students moral values of Christianity.


He appreciated Governor Otti for his avowed determination to reclaim the state through prayers by approving the inter-denominational service to rededicate the state to God for attaining 32 years.
