Nine persons, including a pregnant woman were at the weekend crushed to death by an over speeding dark green Honda civic, with registration number AA 160 KMC, at Jahun roundabout in Jigawa.
The vehicle, which was coming from Gujungu Jahun road at high speed suddenly lost control while trying to negotiate the roundabout and crushed the bystanders waiting for a commercial vehicle at the bus stop.
Our reporter, who was at the scene of the accident which occurred about 7:30 pm on Saturday evening, counted no fewer than nine persons, mostly women and children, while the injured victims were rushed to the Jahun General Hospital.
Among the dead was a heavily pregnant woman, who was rushed to the hospital for emergency operation in an attempt to rescue her baby; it was later discovered that even the baby had died.
The driver who was said to be alone in the accidented vehicle abandoned it and disappeared on sensing the calamity he had caused.
Eyewitnesses said the driver was over speeding and lost control of the vehicle, plunging into the innocent victims.
