65-year-old woman, others to grace 2nd Ogun women race

Over 2,000 women across Ogun state have registered for this year’s edition of the five kilometer “Ogun Women Run” in Abeokuta, the state capital, Saturday.

This, according to organisers, will also include a certain 65-year-old woman, Aduke Omidiji.

Organised by Brussels Sports Management Limited annually for adult girls and women in the state, the race is expected to further create bonding and encourage healthy living among females.

Briefing newsmen in Abeokuta on Friday, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Brussels Sports Management, Seyi Johnson, said the race was expanded this year due to its acceptability among women.

He said the winner would go home with 500,000, while the first and second runners-up would receive N300, 000 and N200 respectively.

Meanwhile, the Race Director, Ebidowei Oweifie, has disclosed that all participants would go home with a medal, adding that the goal “is to make running for healthy living a lifestyle among the women folk.”

“The real runners will go home with top prizes, while we have at least 600 fun-runners who have registered for the race and will go home with gifts as well.

“The race is for bonding and promoting healthy living. It is to encourage our women to make it a lifestyle,” he said.

The race is expected to kick off by 8:00am at Sapon area of Abeokuta metropolis, through Isale Igbein, GTBank road, NNPC roundabout and terminate at the MKO Abiola stadium, Kuto.
