4 Killed, 1 missing as herders attack Benue communities

Four persons were reportedly killed and another missing when herdsmen attacked Gwer West local government area of Benue state.
The herdsmen were said to have at about 5:00 pm Saturday launched attack on Tse Shishim village around Ahume settlement in Saghev/Ukusu council ward of Gwer West local government area.


Two survivors of the attack, who simply gave their names as Iorgba and Kumator, went to their village to take some food for their families taking refuge at Naka.
They said the armed Fulani herdsmen on sighting them started pursuing them with AK-47 guns and cutlasses but two of them ran and escaped narrowly while Terhemba Shishim, 35, was killed by the attackers.
Security officer, Gwer West local government council, Mr. Awarga Fred, in a statement issued Monday confirmed the incident and said the four persons were killed in different communities while one person was missing.


He said security agencies had combed the village the following morning but the dead body of late Terhemba Shishim could not be found. But his foot wears and other belongings were found in the nearby bushes in the village.
He said the victim’s mutilated and decomposed body was found by some youth from the area Monday morning under a bridge in a nearby village.
“Similarly, armed Fulani militia again between the hours of 2:00 pm 7pm local time Sunday simultaneously launched attack on two villages in Gwer West local government area of Benue state.


“At Tse Iber village in Jimba settlement area, the attackers killed Teryila Agbe, 28, and Torloko Adamu, 40.
The Fulani militia also in another attack in Mbaatan, Kunav, Sengev council ward of Gwer West local government area killed Mne Iorhemen, 30, while his younger brother, Terdoo Iorhemen was kidnapped with his Honda motorcycle and taken to an unknown destination and his whereabouts is still unknown as at the time of writing this report.
Meanwhile, the lifeless body of Mne Iorhemen earlier recovered has been deposited in a private mortuary at Agagbe, he added.
