37th edition of Qu’ran competition ends in Jos

The 37th edition of the annual Qur’anic recitation competition has ended in Jos, with an urge on parents to strive hard on quality education of their children.

The urge was made by Prof. Ahmad Haruna, the guest speaker, at the closing ceremony of the competition, Sunday at the conference hall of Jos Central Mosque.

Prof Harun of the Department of Religious Studies and Philosophy, University of Jos, said good education entails inculcating in children the true teachings of Qur’an and core Islamic values.

He also enjoined Islamic scholars, who are the custodians of the glorious Qur’an to engage themselves in business ventures that would be generating income to them, so as to avoid being perceived as beggars by some reach individuals.

He reiterated that, doing so would ensure dignity and value of the Glorious Qur’an they are being associated with, as they serve as role models to their students.

He maintained that the society will never get things right, as far as those who suppose to instill the virtues of the glorious Qur’an which is the guiding manual for the lives of Muslims, are not upright.

At least 150 males and females reciters of the Qur’an participated in the week long completion.
