2023: Rights activist sues for peaceful election, condemns Okene blast

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a Kogi-based human rights activist, Ahmed Sadiq Adoke, has called on politicians to shun issues that would impede the integrity of the forthcoming general elections, saying there is no alternative to peace in any society.

Adoke made the call, Wednesday, during his 80th birthday prayers held at his resident in Nagazi, Adavi local government area of Kogi state.

According to him, democracy which is government of the people by the people and for the people should be a source of development, noting that indulging in electoral violence and crises can only set community, state and nation backward.

He, however, appealed to political leaders irrespective of parties, to call their supporters to order, saying Kogi Central senatorial district cannot afford to pass through another round of political upheavals where peace completely eluded the land.

“It is time we learn from what happen in 2007, 2011 and 2015 with respect to elections. The 2023 elections suppose to be the type that will enable the electorate to elect credible candidates that will usher in, peace and development,” he said.

Speaking on the bomb explosion that occurred in Okene ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s commissioning of projects, Adoke condemned the act in totality, saying the interest of Ebira land should be over and above any personal interest.
