2023: As president, there’ll be zero tolerance to corruption, insecurity – Onochie

A leading presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Orefo Nnamdi Onochie, has promised zero tolerance to corruption, insecurity and other menace bedevilling Nigeria under the APC’s watch, if elected as next president.

In a statement signed by Ken Amechi Enemokwu, a member of the Onochie’s 2023 Presidential Campaign Organisation in Abuja, Dr. Onochie stated that what Nigerians were experiencing under the current APC administration would be reduced to zero level once he took over as president of the country on May 29, 2023.

“The monumental corruption attributed to the country by Nigerians and international institutions under the current APC government goes to show that the party is a citadel of corruption and the most corrupt administration in the history of Nigeria”.

The Onochie campaign organisation said the country has been plunged deeper into a putrid 149th position on the international corruption perception index in 2020; dropping 13 places since 2015, under the watch of the APC, which is an incontrovertible confirmation that our nation is now more corrupt under this APC government than it was in 2015 when the PDP transferred political power to it.

He stated that apart from the worsened corruption in the country, Nigeria has become a killing-field, as people now live in palpable fear and in a constant state of hardship, economic and insecurity hopelessness under APC’s watch.

“It is also an incontrovertible fact that our nation today under the APC has become a killing-field, with several rural and urban hit and run terrorist activities, irredentist secession agitations, kidnapping of adults, vulnerable unprotected scholars and students, boarding schools, young women, while traveling from homes and in full public glare and nighttime/daylight; families and parents are living in palpable fear.

“These have become endemic, pervasive and ominously on the rise: there is banditry everywhere, north and south. We are at the lowest ebb in our national history and only a visionary and very conscientious active, people oriented administration, as I have patriotically structured, under the PDP, can solve these magnitude of and multifaceted problems.”

Dr. Onochie noted that the current descent into inexplicable and unacceptable abyss of corruption, hardships, insecurity, constitutional crisis over restructuring, amongst others, only goes to show that the current administration’s anti-corruption stance or prior campaign commitments and promises to Nigerians, were mere vote-catching exercises used to delude Nigerians.

“Those who have been rightly accused of unforgivable looting of state treasuries and funds, have taken refuge and have hidden themselves by joining the APC,  to stop themselves from further criminal prosecution. It is clear that in future all new cases of official corruption will be proven from public records and the perpetrators will be justly brought before the law, in the full glare of the Nigerian people.”

Dr. Onochie promised that if elected as the next president, his administration would fight to totally eliminate corruption, using software technology, whistle-blowers and full prosecution/identification of offenders, based on the rule of law, and fast tracked litigation processes.
