2022/23 season: How Haaland emerged FWA EPL footballer of the year

Norway football star Erling Haaland has emerged the footballer of the year for the 2022-23 English Premier League (EPL) season, with four matches to go.
His emergence followed the choice of Football Writers’ Association (FWA) through their votes.
At the moment, Haaland has scored 51 massive goals for Manchester City in just one season in all competitions to mark his debut at the EPL.
The Norway international who joined the Premier League champions from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £51m last summer, broke the record for most goals in a Premier League campaign with 35 goals coming in just 32 appearances, with a possible four more appearances to come.
The 22-year-old, alongside his club are pursuing a treble this season.
They are in contention to lift the Premier League title, win Champions League and FA Cup.

City had won EPL and FA Cup, with Champions League still eluding them.

City are currently top of the Premier League and one point ahead of Arsenal with just four games left of the Premier League season.
They are primed to battle Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on May 17. The first leg finished 1-1.

City are also in the FA Cup final with a showdown against fierce rivals Manchester United at Wembley on June 3.
In the women category, FWA crowned Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, an Australian as women’s footballer of the year for the second consecutive season, having scored 10 goals in 18 games in the Women Super League (WSL) this season.
Kerr earlier this month celebrated scoring 50th league in England.
