20-year-old boy nabbed over plan to kidnap cousin

A 20-year-old boy, Emmanual Idi, has been arrested by the police in Niger state for planning the kidnap of his cousin, Haruna Danladi and demanding for N5 million ransom.
Idi was reported to have conspired with another suspect, Mohammed Kwairi, in attempting to kidnap his cousin in Sabon Mariga of Rafin local government area of Niger state on May 26, 2018.
The suspects were said to have been nabbed by the police at the point of collecting negotiated sum of N2.5 million ransom.
Speaking with journalists, Emmanuel Idi said he invited his friend to the deal to make money, adding that “I gave Kwairi the phone number of my cousin and we demanded for N5 million from him.
“He said he will give us N2.5 million.
We agreed on where to drop the money but we were arrested by the police when we got to the spot.” In a related development, the police have also arrested two bank fraudsters for duping a bank customer of over N6 million last month.
The suspects, Onyenaturuchi Anthony and Michael Kalu, were alleged tohave conspired with one Samuel alias Samsung now on the run.
Samsung was said to have claimed to be a customer care representative of First Bank Plc in a call to one Adekola Akeem of New Busa area of Niger state while posing as Adefemi Johnson, claiming that the ATM card of Akeem had been blocked.
He was said to have demanded the pin number of the ATM card and other account details for verification which Akeem did without hesitation.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger state police command, ASP Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident yesterday in Minna, adding that, “thereafter, the sum of six million one hundred and sixty seven thousand naira was debited from the first bank and UBA accounts of the complainant.” Kalu told journalists in an interview that he assisted his friend, Anthony, to open a bank account in the South with the money but was arrested at the point of withdrawing money from the account.
He said that Anthony had earlier withdrawn the sum of N150, 000 from the account, adding that “it was when we wanted to withdraw more money that the bank manager asked us to come and fill another form but we were handed over to the police instead.” Kalu who is 28, added that, “my parents are not aware that I am in police custody in Niger state.” While parading the suspects, ASP Abubakar said the suspects will soon be charged to court and appealed to residents of the state to always volunteer useful information on criminal activities.
