2 killed in Ibadan as Okada riders, Correctional Service men clash


No fewer than two persons were feared killed in Ibadan on Tuesday in a clash involving men of the Nigeria Correctional  Service and Commercial motorcyclists at  Agodi  area of the town.


Eye  witness account said the clash paralysed activities at the ever busy Agodi Gate – Iso part area end  the area with traders and passers by scampering for safety as the warring parties engaged in free for all. 


It was learnt that trouble started when men of the correctional centre reportedly ordered the motorcyclists to move away from a park located close to the Ibadan Correctional centre with the motorcyclists said to rbe resisting.


The argument over the parking slot  according to the eye witness account resulted into hot argument and the eventual free for all when one of the officers of the correctional centre reportedly hit one of the motorcyclists identified as Alfa after which the motorcyclist reportedly collapsed.


This according to the witness sparked off the free for all other motorcyclists at the park on sighting the Alfa on the floor mobilised and launched counter attack on men of the correctional service with the latter shooting sporadically into the air to scare the rampaging motorcyclists from further attacking them.


It was learnt that it was during this confusion that another person was reportedly hit by stray bullet while others sustained injuries while attempting to flee the troubled area for safety.


 Oyo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Lawrence Fadeyi in a statement on the clash said the clash was between officers of the correctional service and bike men stationed at Agodi gate, area of Ibadan. 

“Contrary to the currently trending news online, that police men fired shots leading to injury at Agodi gate area this morning , the truth is that there was a clash between officers of the correctional service and bike men stationed at Agodi gate”, he said.


SP Fadeyi added, “,upon receipt of this information, police men as well as other security agencies moved to the scene to ensure there’s no break down of law and order that could lead to coordinated attack on the prison facility. POLICE MEN FIRED NO SHOT. further development will unfold  and be communicated latter.”
