Rugby: Nigeria tackles Ghana for President’s Cup


The Nigerian national rugby team, The Black Stallions will face their Ghanaian counterparts in a two legged encounter for the Presidents Cup.

The first leg will be played in Lagos, Nigeria on 4 May 2019. The second leg was originally  scheduled to hold on 11 May 2019 but has been postponed until 11 June due to the Ramadan fast. A one week camping exercise will commence on 27 April ahead of the first leg.

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation has released a 30 man squad with ten players from Cowrie Rugby Club led by national team captain Azeez Ladipo. Barewa Rugby Club of Kaduna had the second largest contingent on the list with eight players. 

Speaking ahead of the encounter, the South African head coach of the Black Stallions Bronson Weir said, “I am looking forward to meeting up with the players again and looking to improve on areas where we did not do well vs Niger where we won convincingly.” 

“I would also like to invite other coaches in the country to attend our training sessions. All are welcome” he concluded.
