Sokoto NBA organises 2024 Caliphate Law Week 

The Sokoto state government is committed to the independence of the judicial arm of government, Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Nasiru Mohammed Binji, has said.

The state attorney general, who stated this while declaring open the 2024 Law Week organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Sokoto state chapter, said the current administration in the state would not in any way interfere with administrative and judicial functions of the judiciary.

Bunji said the Ahmed Aliyu-led administration in the state would continue to ensure uninterrupted and timely flow of all finances of the judiciary.

He said the state government was also committed  to the welfare of the law officers and to provide them with appropriate working tools and conducive atmosphere for optimum performance.

Binji solicited the support of members of the bar for overall development of the state.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chairman of the NBA, Sokoto state chapter, Nuhu Muhammad, said the law week was an annual event organised by the state chapter to bring together the professional colleagues on issues, especially about professionalism.

Speaking on the paper presented during the opening ceremony, Nuhu said professionalism has been the key and bedrock of meaningful development of any society.

He added that if  all the professionals from any discipline will work professionally in their respective areas, Nigeria will catch up with other developed nations.

Also speaking, the chief judge of Sokoto state, Justice Mohammed Sa’idu Sifawa, noted that the NBA and the judiciary are like twin brothers working on the same  noble goals for the development of administration of justice.

He also noted that the NBA occupied a significant portion in the architecture of the judiciary adding that it plays a critical role in the administration of justice in the country.

He added that the cordial relationship that existed between members of Bench and NBA in Sokoto enabled the judiciary to fully participate in all the week long activities of NBA Law Week.

Justice Sifawa eulogised the state chapter and the organising committee for choosing paper presentation by legal luminaries to touch burning issues that affect professionalism. 

He said the topics were timely and deliberately chosen, especially given the daunting challenges the country system is facing.

Justice Sifawa commended the Sokoto NBA and described it as most outstanding branch. 

The NBA week long activities commenced Friday with special prayers at Ali Akilu Jumu’at Mosque, Sokoto , visit and donation to the orphanage centre in  Sokoto and visit to the remand home centre.
