Federation Cup: Enyimba, 3SC, Akwa United crash out

 It was a case of how the mighty are fallen in the 2024 President Federation Cup Round of 16 matches played yesterday as NPFL champions Enyimba, Shooting Stars and Akwa United were sent packing from the oldest Cup competition in the country by lower league clubs.

Second-tier club Sokoto United eliminated Enyimba at the FIFA Goal Project, Abuja  while Kebbi United saw off Akwa United 1-0 at the Bwari Township Stadium to qualify for the quarterfinal of the cup competition.

Shooting Stars run in the cup also ended at the FIFA Goal Project when they were beaten 1-0 another lower league club El Kanemi Warriors.

Sunshine Stars outscored Rivers United 1-0 thanks to an early goal by Lucky Nwafor to advance to the last-eight.

Rivers United missed a penalty 19 minutes from time.

Kano Pillars won the Northwest Derby against fellow NPFL club Katsina United 8-7 on penalties after fulltime scores stood at 1-1.

Other quarter-finalists are Inter Lagos, Abia Warriors and EFCC Abuja.

The winners of the Federation Cup will represent Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup.
