Zamfara pays N1.7bn UBE counterpart fund

As part of its bid to access 2014/2015 federal government counterpart fund from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Zamfara state government has released the sum of N1.7 billion to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as its counterpart fund.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) Zamfara SUBEB,  Kabir Ibrahim Mayanchi, stated that the funds would be utilised to facilitate the basic education board activities in the state.
The statement added that particular attention would be given to the construction of schools, renovation, provision of furniture, training and re-training of teachers as well as other teaching facilities, considering the fact that it is the basic aspects for education development in the state.

The PRO further revealed that already the state chairman of the Board Hon. Murtala Adamu Jangebe, was in Abuja with a view to processing the counterpart component of the fund, stressing that Zamfara  has become one of the few states in the country that settled its UBE counterpart funding for 2014/2015.
In a similar development, the statement added that about 1,320, 40 teacher development team, 132 teacher facilitators as well as 133 quality assurance ufficers would be trained by the Zamfara SUBEB to boost their capacity this year.
According to the statement, “emphasis will be given to science oriented subjects, while the participants will be selected from various discipline”, stressing that already the Board had met with UBE officials and relevant stakeholders to identify ways of how to ensure success of the programme.
