Yobe, UNFPA, others holds dialogue on VAPP, child protection law

Yobe state government through Justice Sector Reform Team Ministry of Justice in collaboration with United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) and Save the Children International (SCI) has organised a one day capacity building on Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) and Child protection Law for stakeholders in state.

Speaking at the event in Damaturu, Yobe state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Saleh Samanja said, the three bills assented into law; “Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP), Child Right Protection (CPL) and Administration of Justice Reform Bill”, would impact positively on people of the state.

“I also believe strongly that with these laws in place,our administration of justice generally in the state, will have a big boost,” Samanja said.

In his remarks,Yobe state program officer, United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA)Mr Auwal Bashir said, the gathering is primarily to commemorate International Human Rights Day as part of the last activity for the 16 days of activism for the year 2022.

Bashir noted that it also for increasing collaboration and partnership among stakeholders.

“This is an advocacy platform at the higher level. we are trying to see that laws, policies and enabling environment is been provided by the state government and being supported by implementing partners,donors to see that best enabling environment is being provided that communities can speak out, evidences presented and law can be provided against perpetration and any other thing,” he said.

The public relations officer, Justice Sector Reform Team, Altine Ibrahim said, the VAPP Act was enacted to eliminate all forms of violence against persons in private and public life.

The Programme also feature presentation of certificate of honour to stakeholders as well as implementing partners in the state.
