Yobe: NSCDC personnel to track children swimming in stagnant ponds – Commandant

In an effort to protect children from drowning into stagnant water ponds or borrow pits while swimming, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC in Yobe state has deployed its disaster unit personnel to curb the challenge.

The State Commandant, Ayinla Olowo, disclosed this Monday in Damaturu while speaking with Blueprintcorrespondent.
“Children are fond of swimming in water ponds; therefore I have sent my disaster personnel to track the children who are perpetrators in order to avert what happened last year where some children were drowned.
“We will carry out a sensitization to traditional and communities leaders who will also enlighten their wards in this respect,” he said.

Olowo, warned parents to keep vigil on their children as he had dispatched his personnel for surveillance and to identify flood drowning areas across the state.

He further urged residents not to build houses or dump refuse on the water channels, saying when that happens, the water must surely find its level.
