Yobe: Government College Nguru old boys alumni meets, pledges support for education

Government College Nguru Old Boys Association (GOCONOBA) from 1991 to date within and outside the state Saturday gathered for its first grand reunion and general meeting.

The event with the theme, “Reunion for the greatness of all GOCONOBA members” took place at New LT, Federal Polytechnic Damaturu.

In his opening remarks, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Science and Technical Schools Board and Chairman Planning Committee, Dr Dauda Mohammed Atiyaye, said, the reunion was aimed at providing ample opportunity for old students to network and relive the good old days in an atmosphere of fun, excitement, friendliness among other issues for the progress of all.

He stated that alumni’s gathering was one of the best meeting ever.

He noted that, “when there is teamwork and collaboration wonderful things can be achieved. These wonderful things cannot be achieved if we don’t unite ourselves. The unity we aspire is the unity that represent togetherness and being there for one another”.

On his part, the committee chairman thanked all for honoring the invitation and for believe in the Government College Nguru Old Boys Association project.

In his speech, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Higher Education, Alhaji Ajiya Musa, said the theme of the event was appropriate.

Buni noted that since inception, his administration declared state of emergency on education and efforts were on to improve standard of education in the state.

He urged the gathering to support his administration for the benefits of people of the state.

Also, present were representative of Commissioner for Basic and secondary school education Dr. Mohammed Sani Idriss, former and current college’s Principals, teachers, Head boys among other staff, respectively.
