Yobe attack: 14 soldiers, 11 cops killed

No fewer than 14 soldiers and 11 policemen were killed on Monday in Buni Yadi town of Gujba local government are an of Yobe state by suspected Boko Haram gunmen around 5 pm.
The insurgents also set the security and military formations as well as police station in the area on fire after the killings and over powering of the security operatives in the area.

Other places the insurgents torched included the area court and district head residence as well as office amongst few others.
Security sources told Blueprint on phone that 14 corpses of the soldiers and 11 of policemen had so far been taken to the Damaturu Specialist Hospital mortuary.
But a resident, Malam Modibbo Kawu, said the insurgents entered the town in a Hilux van adorned with flags and drove straight to the military formation.
He said residents were told not to be scared as they had not come to attack, but that they had come for reprisals with the security over the military’s attack on the Boko Haram members at Alagarno last week.
Kawu further said the insurgents set the district head house on fire, burnt the local government secretariat, including the divisional police station as well as the military base in the area.

Other sources in the town disclosed to newsmen on phone that over 20 corpses of soldiers were seen being conveyed along with about 20 corpses of the policemen to Damaturu General Hospital.
However, security sources confirmed that 14 soldiers and 11 policemen were killed making it a total of 25 security opera gives killed by the Boko Haram insurgents.
Attempts by this reporter to get the reaction of the Yobe state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) were futile as calls were not going through due to poor network services at the time of filing in this report.
