Work at Lekki Deep Seaport reaches 96%

The palpable enthusiasm awaiting the commencement of commercial operations at the Lekki Deep Seaport in Ibeju, Lagos in a matter of weeks was further accentuated by the announcement that the project has reached 95.65 percent completion.

At the weekend, President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the designation of the port as a Customs Port & Approved Wharf via a correspondence through the ministry of Transportation addressed to the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mohammed Bello-Koko, stating that all is set for the port to receive commercial vessels.

The President’s approval was in response to a request by the NPA where it seek an expedited presidential approval for the Port to be gazetted as a Customs port.

NPA General Manager for Corporate and Strategic Communications, Mr. Nasiru Ibrahim affirmed that “With this approval granted by President Buhari, it means all is set for commercial vessels from across the world to berth and clear cargoes at Nigeria’s first Deep Sea Port and first fully automated port.”
